Little Birchy

Well done 2B!

Mr Corteen chose our class for Little Birchy to visit because you have been working so well. Here he is with our star of the day and her study buddy.

Good Work

Some children from yellow and green groups worked together with Mrs Brady to write their own version of the poem ‘Things I Have Been Doing Lately’ by Alan Ahlberg. We were trying to include connectives and sdjectives to make our sentences more interesting.

Eating cocopops for my breakfast with my big sister.

Playing on the fast swings in the park with my big brother.

Walking to primary school with my dad and little sister.

Going to a sunny beach because I have been good.

Going to a fancy party with my uncle.

Playing cars with my little brother because he wanted me to.

This weeks work

We have done some wonderful literacy work this week. We have been learning about poetry, reading some poems and writing our own. Take a look at this week’s good work to see the poem by yellow group. In maths we have been learning about time. We have also been doing a lot of RE and looking at special places in preparation for our visit to St Ages’s Church on Monday.

This week’s work

In Literacy we have been learning about poetry. We read lots of poems and we wrote our own versions of ‘When I was One’ and ‘The Ning Nang Nong’. Maths has been all about measuring again. This week we have concentrated on weight, which is how heavy or light something is and capacity which is often about how much liquid a container holds. We started learning about electricity in Science and started by thinking about how to be safe around it. We are looking forward to making bulbs light up, spinners spin round and buzzers buzzing.

House Points!!!!

The whole school have been split into houses called Earth, Fire, Air and Water. The2B children will be in the same house as their brothers and sisters. They can collect housepoints for work, behaviour, good manners, homework in fact, for anything at all that makes at teacher pleased with them. Remember, any teacher can give out housepoints for anything at anytime so be on your guard!

Welcome Back

Welcome back to all 2B. I hope you enjoyed your week holiday and are ready to work hard for the next seven weeks.

We have started to do homework now. The children are already asked to read each night and their books are changed the following morning. We are now asking them to do a piece of writing and some maths work each weekend. They will also be given spellings in their phonics groups on Thursday’s to learn for a test the following week.

Thanks to all the parents, carers and big brothers and sisters who are helping.

Eid

EID MUBARAK to all our Muslim families.

We really enjoyed our EID PARTY, we played games and danced and went on the trim trail. And a big thank you to everyone who brought food for the children to share - we had lots of chocolates and biscuits left (enough to have some treats during Golden Time next week). Unfortunately we can’t put photos of our party on our blog as Mrs Brady was having so much fun, she forgot to take any!

We also enjoyed our extra day off school for EID. But poor Mrs Brady, Mrs Conway and all the other teachers had to come to school and work. I hope the children will work extra hard to make up for it!

Working Hard

We have been working so hard over the last few weeks we’ve not had time to update our blog. So this is what we’ve been up to.

In LITERACY and HISTORY we are still learning about THE GREAT FIRE OF LONDON. We have written recounts of the story, thought about why it started and why it ended. We also compared the clothes of men and women with the clothes we wear today.

In MATHS we are still working on different ways we can ADD and SUBTRACT. We have tried using cubes, counters, 100 squares and number lines. We all have our favourite way and  we can use whichever we want to solve a calculation.

Our SCIENCE lessons have all been about STAYING HEALTHY. We know we need to eat a healthy diet with lots of fruit, vegetables and water and not many sweets, chips or fizzy drinks! We also know we have to get plenty of exercise, both at school and at home, rather than just watching TV or going on the computer.

Good Work

Well done to Asim and Raneem who got good work awards for learning how to add and subtract using a number line.

Mrs Conway’s first time on this page

I think that I will use this page a lot.
